“"Be absolutely good in your basics, always be able to push the boundaries of your knowledge and be willing to venture into other domains."”
Qosmic follows a fundamentals-first, mission-aligned hiring philosophy designed for a deep-tech environment where problems are complex, open-ended, and often require knowledge across multiple disciplines. The company looks beyond a candidate's existing specialization and evaluates their ability to think independently, learn continuously, collaborate, and push the boundaries of their knowledge. Candidates are expected to contribute to a long-term mission, rather than simply perform within a predefined job description. Because Qosmic works on cutting-edge optical infrastructure for satellite communication, employees may need to move between areas such as optics, electronics, mechanical engineering, and quantum technologies. The company also emphasizes collective growth, with employees potentially receiving a stake in the company so that individual growth and organizational growth remain aligned.
At Qosmic, technical competence alone is not enough. Candidates need to demonstrate strong fundamentals, independent thinking, and the ability to stretch beyond their current expertise. The company operates around a long-term mission, so candidates who want to work on challenging problems and grow alongside the organization are more likely to fit.
- Mission alignment
- Ability to push boundaries
- Technical competence
- Independent problem-solving
- Superficial technical knowledge
- Rigid specialization
- Inability to adapt to unfamiliar domains
- Poor collaboration
Qosmic looks for candidates with strong fundamentals, technical depth, curiosity, and the ability to push beyond their existing domain. Since the company works on complex, cutting-edge problems, candidates are expected to think independently, solve challenging problems, justify their technical decisions, and collaborate effectively with the team. Long-term alignment with the company's mission is also critical.
The interview process is designed to test actual technical thinking rather than memorized knowledge. Candidates first have a short introductory conversation, followed by two technical questions that they are given approximately a week to solve. After reviewing the responses, Qosmic conducts a detailed technical interview where candidates must explain and defend their approach, decisions, and reasoning. Interviews can extend up to two hours, reflecting the depth of technical evaluation.
Build extremely strong fundamentals and demonstrate the ability to apply them to unfamiliar problems. Be prepared to solve open-ended technical challenges independently and explain why you chose your approach. Show curiosity beyond your core specialization, willingness to learn across domains, and strong teamwork. Most importantly, understand Qosmic's long-term mission and demonstrate that you genuinely want to contribute to it.
